HAIM Brighten Our Lives With A Surprise Show At Primavera Sound

After pictures of HAIM sightseeing around Barcelona surface on the band's Twitter and Instagram accounts, punters start speculating: will they perform a secret show at Primavera Sound?

Hmmm, there's an empty slot on the Ray-Ban Stage around 3am. Other secret show rumours circulating include Foo Fighters and even Taylor Swift, since she was snapped boarding a private jet outta London with her new boyf Joe Alwyn. 

Undoubtedly, HAIM experience a surge in Twitter/Insta followers as a result of said rumours. Then the following tweet confirms the LA sibling band's appearance: "surprise primavera fest. playing the ray-ban stage in 1 hour #unexpectedprimavera". 

There's a buzzing atmosphere of excitement just before 3am as those in the know gather before the Ray-Ban Stage and, when HAIM's band name flashes up on the big screens under an "Unexpected Primavera" logo to announce their performance, we're all cheers. 

Este, Danielle and Alana Haim finally take the stage with their drummer, Dash Hutton, and the Primavera massive go wild. HAIM open with their sunny new single, Want You Back, immediately showcasing those glorious harmonies. The girls channel Hold On by Wilson Phillips in this new one and look absolutely delighted to be up on that stage.

The irresistibly upbeat Don't Save Me gets us bopping, and the three sisters let their individual personalities shine: band leader Danielle boasts maturity in her delivery and her vocal tone is lush; bassist Este gurns un-self-consciously as she prises the notes from her instrument; and Alana bounces about in her cut-off shorts — a picture of youthful exuberance. 

"Surprise!" they announce, before taking obligatory selfies with crowd as backdrop. We score another new song, A Little Of Your Love, which is a hoot to shout along to: "Gimme just a little of your love!" Alana tells us she watched Darkside on this very stage three years ago and hoped her band would score an opportunity to play this festival one day — dreams can come true!

"Thanks for dancing with us, Barcelona," they praise, and what a joyous inclusion HAIM are to Primavera Sound's line-up. All three sisters pound drums to finish, which is a killer touch. "I can't wait to come back here!" Este gushes, and HAIM disappear into the early morning after brightening our lives.
