More Green Day More Green Day

Green Day have started teasing a 25th anniversary edition of their 2000 album, Warning.

Originally released on 3 October 2000, Warning marked Green Day’s sixth album and featured the singles Minority, Waiting, and the title track. While retaining their signature punk rock sound, Warning expanded their core musicianship and incorporated elements of folk, pop, and acoustic music.

Upon its release, Warning peaked at #4 on the US Billboard 200, and, as of 2012, had sold over 1.2 million copies in the US and was certified Gold by the RIAA. Globally, the album has sold over 3.5 million copies. In Australia, it’s certified Platinum and peaked at #7 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

While Warning was considered a commercial disappointment back in 2000, it served as a crucial stepping stone before the release of 2004’s world-conquering American Idiot.

Now, in a video posted on social media, Green Day have started teasing a 25th anniversary release of the album. They captioned the all-green video, “WARNING ⚠️ Warning: 25 is almost here. ⚠️,” as Minority plays in the background. You can watch the teaser below.

What’s set to be included on the 25th anniversary release hasn’t been announced yet, but the Green Day fan account, greendayinc, claimed that the drop will feature “demos and live performances.”

Last year, Green Day released their 14th album, Saviors, and commemorated the joint anniversaries of Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004), celebrating the 30th and 20th anniversaries, respectively.

The Dookie and American Idiot reissues arrived with new vinyl releases, accompanied by stacks of demos and live performances on box sets and streaming services. So, it’s safe to assume that the anniversary edition of Warning will feature something similar.

Reviewing the band’s show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium earlier this year, The Music’s Claire Dunton wrote, “As the crowd emptied Marvel Stadium, the crowds were buzzing with the most uniform-looking attendees we had ever seen. A sea of Green Day band shirts celebrating the 2024/2025 tour, as well as previous work tours, was seen on all ages, eager to wear a piece of a band important to so many.”
