Melbourne indie singer-songwriter Grace Cummings has shared the first taste of her upcoming second album in the form of the new single Heaven.

The first release for the artist since signing with US label ATO Records, the track leads the release of her new LP, Storm Queen, slated for release 14 January 2022.

“I wrote Heaven in just about the same time it takes to sing," Cummings stated of the new track.

"I heard that you’d always know who the hero was in an old cowboy movie because they’d be wearing a ten gallon Stetson. Heaven might be a person… or a place… or my father or a tiny little caterpillar or the sound of a Kookaburra laughing. The kookaburra is a hero. I am not.”

The artist rose to critical acclaim in 2019 with the release of her debut album Refuge Cove. Since then, she's gone on to play all over the place performing alongside the likes of Weyes Blood and J Mascis as tour support.

“I always have things very close to the surface—it’s actually harder for me to just exist in the normal world,” Cummings said of the new album. “I generally feel quite comfortable when I’m recording, because I’m allowed to be absolutely myself instead of trying to hide anything."

She adds, “I don’t really do that thing where I lock myself away and sit down at a table like, ‘Right, let’s write a song now,’

“If I feel like I have something I want to write, I just get it all out in the moment... I’m not precious at all about recording; it just doesn’t make sense to me... I am who I am and I sound how I sound, and I’m not really interested in going in like some kind of magician to try to make it sound any different.”
