The emergent Aussie indie label just keeps on growing

More The Art More The Art

Ascendant Sydney-based indie label Golden Robot Records has grown its roster of artists by a further two entries, welcoming ex-Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies and four-piece rockers The Art into the fold.

Gillies lands at the label on the cusp of a new chapter in his career, working towards the release of a new studio album early next year. Alongside his musical exploits, Gillies has remained in the spotlight as an occasional guest on Real Housewives Of Melbourne, on which his wife, Jackie, is a cast member, as well as jointly establishing the La Mascara range of ready-to-serve cocktails.

For their part, The Art have spent the past several years cutting their teeth on stages at home and abroad while rubbing shoulders with the esteemed likes of Marilyn Manson, The Pixies and Nine Inch Nails as well as Thirty Seconds To Mars and Linkin Park. They're ramping up for the release of their second studio full-length, All In The Mind, which is set to hit shelves in November. The first taste has already graced our ears in the form of recent cut Minute To Madness, which should provide all the background you need on why Golden Robot has seen fit to grow their roster by welcoming the emergent outfit to the family. From the sounds of it, the band are no less chuffed with the outcome than their new home.

"The Art are thrilled to be signing with Golden Robot Records!" they effused in a joint statement. "It's an honour to be welcomed by a team who so genuinely foster the passion and creativity of their artists, while providing a platform for us to all dream bigger!"

The new signings are just the latest feather in the cap for the upstart label, which has leveraged its first year-and-a-bit of operation into successful deals with the likes of The Lockhearts, Steve Kilbey, The Superjesus and more. It'll be a busy spell over the next few months as Golden Robot sets its sights on pushing out 15 new albums' worth of Aussie music over the next year.
