'How To Be A Human Being' drops next month
UK indie-rock gems Glass Animals have just got done with their lauded, sold-out tour of Australia, but they're not quite ready to step away from the limelight just yet as they prepare for the release of their new LP How To Be A Human Being through Caroline Australia next month.
To that end, the band have preceded the 11-track album with new single and video Youth, the second track to be taken from the record, following initial taster Life Itself. Like many of the album's other songs, Youth takes its cues from real life, frontman Dave Bayley having something of a penchant for the (ethically questionable) pastime of recording unwitting people in conversation and later poring over the explicit and unspoken details of their lives— "People tell you some amazing things when they don't think they're ever gonna see you again," he says.
"Someone told me a story about her son once that was one of the saddest things I've ever heard," Bayley explains of Youth's origins in a statement. "What she said was completely heartbreaking, but she told it with such a sense of calm. She was on the verge of crying, but she was also smiling and something in her face said that she had found a way to be happy again. This song is trying to get at that sentiment."
