Eora-based pop angel Gia Darcy has released her debut EP Crash Test today, alongside tour dates across NSW this October.
Crash Test sees the artist enter her full form as a prolific and emotive songwriter, tapping into an artistic palette that stretches between fully fleshed pop anthems to indie-fused heart wrenchers. The music came together through various writing sessions Darcy had while in Los Angeles, working with the likes of Liam Quinn – who has also written for Ruel, Keith Urban and Peach PRC – to piece together a sonic leap of faith into Darcy’s world.
The 5-track EP traverses sentiments around loss, heartbreak and new connections, which Darcy calls is her “most personal body of work” yet.
“Each song captures a unique emotion and moment,” she said.
“One song deals with the grief of losing my grandma, while another is about the pure joy and love I have for my best friend. Two tracks dive into the anxiety and excitement of starting a new relationship, despite all the fears and uncertainties. The final song is about feeling broken after a relationship ended and questioning why someone would choose to hurt and use me like that.”
Each song is indicative of real life emotional experiences that everyone may go through in life , a formative release for Darcy, who hopes will “resonate with anyone who’s faced similar highs and lows in their own lives”.
