Angus & Julia StoneIt's been a while between drinks for fans of Sydney-bred sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone, but that's about to change.
After largely parting ways to engage in solo pursuits not long after the 2010 release of their acclaimed sophomore LP, Down The Way, Angus and Julia have been continually developing their individual talents with their personal releases, but the time has come for the bonds of blood to bring them together again for their forthcoming self-titled third album.
Although we won't see the finished record until August 1, Angus and Julia have been starting to lift the veil on their forthcoming LP, starting with last month's release of first new single Heart Beats Slow.
Now, the pair has upped the ante once more by unveiling the sounds of Death Defying Acts – a lurching, ominous, atmospheric composition that highlights just how far the already impressive brother-and-sister duo have come since their unofficial hiatus began. Although the song is not being released as an official single, it helps paint a picture of the duo's musical headspace outside the structural trappings of radio play.
The increased assuredness and imagination in Angus' guitar lines and the refinement and strengthening of Julia's deceptively fragile vocals are only two aspects that demonstrate how both have benefitted from their time apart in making their collaborative pastime even better than it already was.
As mentioned, Angus & Julia Stone will be released on August 1, and features the legendary Rick Rubin in the producer's chair. With Platinum and quadruple-Platinum albums already under their belts, it wouldn't be an outrageous assumption to think the third time could be just as much, if not even more, a charm.
