Genesis Owusu is looking to claim 2022 as his own as well, today announcing he’ll kick the year off by performing on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
The appearance is slated for this coming Friday night in the US, meaning it’ll likely be available for Aussies to view on Saturday sometime.
“My first late night show!! Shout out stephen colbert!!” Owusu said via Twitter.
The Aussie artist had an absolutely huge 2021 following the release of his Smiling With No Teeth album.
He cleaned up at the 2021 ARIAs, claiming Album Of The Year, Best Hip Hop Release, Best Independent Release and Best Cover Art, won Album Of The Year at the J Awards and made it onto Barack Obama’s highly anticipated Favourite Music Of 2021 list alongside Courtney Barnett.

Smiling With No Teeth was also named in theMusic.com.au’s Top 20 Albums Of 2021, with contributor Cyclone noting: “With his conceptual debut, Owusu transgresses – and transcends – the conventions of Australian hip hop. SWNT might be compared to Prince's initial punk rebellion – and OutKast – over any contemporary art-rapper, bar Kanye West.”
