The promoter behind Ja Rule's ill-fated Fyre Festival has reportedly been arrested on fraud charges.
As ABC reports, organiser Billy McFarland was arrested in New York and is being charged with wire fraud after scheming to defraud investors Fyre Media.
McFarland is said to have presented investors with fake documents that convinced some to contribute more than US$1 million, according to acting US attorney Joon Kim.
The news comes amid numerous lawsuits and an FBI investigation.
The controversial Bahamas-based event was scheduled to go down across two weekends in April and May with headliners Blink-182 and more, but was cancelled shortly after kicking off as setup had not been completed yet.
Hundreds of attendees at the “luxury” event then took to social media to air their grievances at the less than satisfactory offering for their $US12,000 ticket.
If convicted of the wire fraud charges, McFarland could face up to 20 years in prison.
