This July marks 27 years since Frente!’s last record, 1996’s Shape.
The quirky Aussie outfit’s second album followed the massively successful Marvin The Album (1992). While Shape couldn’t replicate the success of Accidently Kelly Street or Ordinary Angels, the album still did pretty well in Australia, hitting #35 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
Frente! released four EPs from 1991 to 1994: Whirled, Clunk, Labour Of Love, and Lonely. In 2014, they released a live album, Live at Fez, New York 2004. The group broke up in 1997 but have since written and performed together over the years.
Now, Angie Hart and Simon Austin are ready to finally release new music. In the latest Listen Carefully With Nathan Jolly podcast episode, Hart made the thrilling revelation about 15 minutes into her appearance.
“We’re gonna try and write another Frente! album - we have some songs underway already,” she revealed. “It’s that thing of allowing it to be what it wants to be. It doesn’t have to talk to anything that happened previously, and there’s no expectations of it.”
Hart continued, “Our intention is to embrace exactly who we are now. One of the things we would like to champion is being our age, and having the lives that we have, and not pretending that’s not happening because I think there’s a real strength in that.
“I think that it’s a wonderful time now for me, definitely as a woman — I'm 51 — to champion that and say that there is something to be said, and there’s a strength in our experience, and what we know now about life and how we are as musicians - there’s something to offer, and we’re trying to lean into that.”
