Brisbane Festival has postponed this week's art installation, Fire Gardens, due to the fire ban currently in place following Queensland's bushfire devastation.
The event, which was to be held at the city's botanic gardens, will be rescheduled to next week, starting 18 September, subject to advice from QLD Fire & Emergency Services.
"We are responsive to community concerns and sensitive to the anguish of those who have lost their homes and livelihoods in the fires," Brisbane Festival Chair Paul Spiro said.
“Our thoughts are with our fellow Queenslanders affected by the bushfires. Brisbane Festival, in partnership with disaster relief charity GIVIT, will collect public donations at its Treasury Brisbane Arcadia hub. Patrons can also donate when purchasing Brisbane Festival tickets online.”
“I support this decision taken by the Brisbane Festival Chair, Board and executive team to postpone this week’s Fire Gardens events,” Minister For The Arts Leeanne Enoch said.
“I wish to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of all involved from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and all the volunteers who are working tirelessly around the State.”
“The safety of Brisbane’s residents is our first priority and due to current conditions, we are supportive of Brisbane Festivals position on this,” Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner added.
