In September, Fergus James and his mum, Caz, joined the cooking reality competition My Kitchen Rules as “gatecrashers.” They haven’t stopped surprising the competition, last night winning the first semi-final of the season and securing their place in Tuesday’s Grand Final.
Last night, Caz and Fergus entered the first semi-final against the mother-daughter team Janey and Maddie. The latter team showcased their best cooking yet, serving a beef Wellington in not a lot of time, a seafood entrée, and a raspberry souffle dessert.
However impressive their performance was, it was Caz and Fergus’ Thai-inspired menu that impressed the judges enough to take the win.
After making grilled pork jowl with Nahm Jim Jaew (a dipping sauce), the Australian singer-songwriter and his mum went on to make Choo Chee Ocean Trout with papaya salad and rice for main and a peanut butter panna cotta with chocolate mousse and butterscotch for dessert.
While Caz and Fergus haven’t yet shared their reactions to getting into the Grand Final on social media, here’s what Fergus had to say about making it to the semi-final: “This is honestly ridiculous… a while ago I decided to hang up the music and go on a tv experience with my mum! somehow we’ve ended up in the semi-final of @mykitchenrules 2024… never thought we’d get this far, but WE ARE HERE! tune in tonight on @channel7 7PM to watch it all go down! BIG LOVE X”.

Caz and Fergus will compete against the winner of tonight’s My Kitchen Rules semi-final. Tonight, the show’s two Italian teams, Mike and Pete and Simone and Viviana, will go head-to-head for the second Grand Final spot.
The My Kitchen Rules final will air at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, 19 November.
Upon the reveal that he’d joined My Kitchen Rules as a gatecrasher, James said he’d been “cooking up some heat in the kitchen” with his “beautiful mum,” which led to his temporary absence from music.
Fergus James’ latest single, Let It Go, was released in late 2023.
