Fat Freddy's Drop ProfileIn March of this year, New Zealand music icons Fat Freddy’s Drop visited Melbourne and Sydney for multiple shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of their iconic album, Based on a True Story.
Now, the group have announced that they’re coming back with more Based on a True Story – or BOATS – shows.
In 2027, Fat Freddy’s Drop will take over Fremantle’s Palace Foreshore on Monday, 1 March, and the Brisbane’s Cultural Forecourt, South Bank, as part of QPAC’s On The Banks series on Friday, 5 March.
Announcing the shows this week, Fat Freddy’s Drop wrote on social media, “Kia ora Australia, fantastic news, BOATS 21st Anniversary Tour is heading to Fremantle and Brisbane in 2027! Doing it for the love of music at Palace Foreshore, Esplanade Park on 1st March, and On The Banks, Queensland Performing Arts Centre on 5th March.”
For both shows, the group will be joined by special guests Sub-Tribe. Pre-sale tickets will be available on Monday, 19 October, followed by the general sale on Wednesday, 21 October. Head to the Palace Foreshore Fremantle and QPAC websites for more ticketing information.
Based on a True Story, released in 2005, is Fat Freddy’s Drop’s debut album. It was the first independently distributed album to reach #1 in New Zealand record sales following its release, and became the third-highest selling artist by a homegrown artist in New Zealand history.
It won Best Album at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2005, and remained in the Top 40 national albums chart for over two years.
Fat Freddy’s Drop have since released another seven albums. Their founding member, Chris Faiumu, unexpectedly passed away last July. Fellow founding member, vocalist Dallas Tamaira, continues to lead the group.
