FANGZ ProfileAfter seven years in music and even a Guinness World Record, Sydney punk rockers FANGZ have announced they’re calling it a day.
Today (29 October), the band have released their final single, VOID, and revealed their final-ever run of shows, taking place in December.
FANGZ will conclude the year – and their music career – at Melbourne’s Bergy Bandroom on Friday, 11 December, Sydney’s Waywards on Saturday, 12 December, Brisbane’s Black Bear Lodge on Friday, 18 December, and Newcastle’s Stag & Huter on Saturday, 19 December.
Tickets are now available via the band’s website.
“ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END. After seven incredible years, we’ve decided it’s time to call it a day. Or go on an indefinite hiatus. Whatever sounds less dramatic,” FANGZ wrote on social media today.
Reflecting on their seven-year journey, which took them further “than any of us could have imagined,” FANGZ said disbanding “hasn’t been an easy decision,” but they came to it together, “and it feels like the right time to finish this chapter on our own terms.”
Throughout their statement, the band thanked their fans and supporters, management, promoters, bands, venues, and photographers that have shared their journey.
“We’re incredibly proud of what we’ve built together, the music we’ve made, the people we’ve reached and everything we’ve achieved as a band,” they continued. “Most of all, we’re proud that we get to walk away as five best mates.
“No bad blood. No dramatic breakup. No farewell documentary. Just five friends who started a band, worked incredibly hard and somehow built something far bigger than we ever imagined.”
FANGZ concluded their statement by assuring fans their indefinite hiatus might not be forever. “Will FANGZ ever play another show? Who knows. Never say never,” they wrote.
“We’re all still mates, and historically speaking, we’re pretty bad at making sensible decisions/ For now, though, this is goodbye. We love you all. One last song. One last tour. One last chance to celebrate everything we’ve built together.
“FANGZ. 2019 - 2026 (probably).”
Their farewell song, VOID, was produced by Daniel Antix (Stand Atlantic, RedHook) and mixed by Tim Maxwell (TOWNS, LOSER). The track is fast-paced and explosive; an example of everything FANGZ do best. Check it out below.
Since forming in 2019, FANGZ have released three EPs, an album, and several singles. Their debut album, Shui, released last year, earned the band an ARIA Australian Album #1 and ARIA Album #8 charting debut.
They’ve sold out headline tours and performed at festivals, launched their own hot sauce, completed an East Coast tour in 24 hours, and ran their own curated mini-festival, FANGZstock. The band’s Josh Cottreau also holds the Guinness World Record for eating the most hard-boiled eggs in one sitting – 143 eggs in three minutes and ten seconds.
