SpiderbaitThere’s plenty of demand for Spiderbait’s upcoming Ivy & the big apples 30th anniversary tour, so much that the band have expanded their metropolitan tour to include some regional cities.
Today, Spiderbait have added another five shows to their itinerary, taking their seminal 1996 album to Canberra, Newcastle, Shoal Bay, Gosford and Miranda. With twelve huge dates locked in across the country, including in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney, the band will deliver one of the most anticipated tours of the winter.
With the new dates announced, Spiderbait will perform at the Shoal Bay Country Club on Friday, 17 July, Gosford’s Entrance Leagues Club on Saturday, 18 July, the Miranda Hotel on Sunday, 19 July, Canberra’s The Baso on Thursday, 30 July, and Newcastle’s King Street Bandroom on Saturday, 1 August, wrapping up the tour with a bang.
Pre-sale tickets for the Canberra and Newcastle shows will be available from Thursday, 7 May, at 12 pm AEST, followed by the general sale for the newly announced shows opening on Friday, 8 May, at 1 pm AEST. They’ll be honoured during a special ceremony taking place at Sydney’s Carriageworks on Thursday, 11 June. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the ARIA Awards, and to celebrate, the Hall of Fame Special Event will host homegrown artists who have defined the soundtrack of generations of Australians.
Ivy & the big apples marked a significant breakthrough for Spiderbait, not only propelling their music toward a more polished sound but also taking them to new commercial heights. The record debuted at #3 in Australia, went double Platinum, and stayed in the ARIA Charts’ Top 50 for almost a year.
While the singles Calypso and Hot Water & Milk were successful, it was Buy Me A Pony that cemented the band’s legacy, becoming the first Australian song ever to win the triple j Hottest 100. The album also won the Best Alternative Release award at the 1997 ARIA Awards.
In a statement, the band described Ivy & the big apples as “Such an important album for us with lots of epic memories.”
For this tour, Spiderbait are joined by an incredible roster of special guests, including Magic Dirt, Custard, The Meanies, Tumbleweed, and The Gnomes.
