Fans around the country fell into panic last month following news that Daryl Braithwaite had been admitted to hospital due to an unspecified illness, but speaking to The Music today, the Aussie icon has confirmed he is on the mend and ready to hit the stage once again.

Following on from his Facebook post this past weekend, where he revealed he had a "benign golf ball size tumour" removed from his abdomen, the former Sherbet frontman said that infections from the December surgery resulted in him having to cancel shows.

"I was in the hospital for about a week and since that time I've been back three or four times with infection that had occurred due to the surgery," he told The Music.

"The last time. I was in for 16 days, got out last Wednesday, and for that 16 days I had been on IV drip of antibiotics that was trying to kill the infection. In the last two days they stopped that IV and put me on to oral antibiotics, which I'm on now."

After calling off the scheduled gigs, Braithwaite recovered in hospital and was discharged last week. He will undergo general check-ups moving forward.

"Feeling alright, just gradually recuperating," he said of the recovery process.

"I didn't think it would be so draining… I think now I'm on the road to good health and doing the gig at Mount Gambier this weekend and the St Kilda festival, we'll be able to see how the singing goes.

"I think, fingers crossed, that it should be fine from now on. I feel quite good within myself. I feel like I'm getting better every day, just feeling a little bit stronger."

Following his appearances at the current Red Hot Summer tour, set to conclude in April, Braithwaite also revealed to The Music that he has plans to write new music.

"I'm going to have a look at maybe having a writing period, where I maybe do some tracks or look at maybe some new tracks for not an album, but I think a single or even a four-track EP," he said.

If the plans do eventuate, the EP would be Braithwaite's first-ever in his 40-year plus career and the first new music he releases since 2013 LP, Forever The Tourist.

"I might get contributions from the boys in the band, see what they have up their sleeves. That’s the plan anyway for after April to look at."
