Ex-Triple J Host Tom Ballard Lands New ABC TV Show

Former triple j breakfast host turned comedian Tom Ballard has landed the hosting role on ABC TV's new show Reality Check.

Co-produced by ABC and Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder, the show will analyse the phenomenon of reality TV shows.

“I couldn't be happier that CJZ and the ABC TV accidentally came across my audition tape for Australia's Next Top Model and decided to give me this job,” Ballard said.

Formerly home to Andrew Denton, CJZ is the production house behind the Gruen Transfer and spin-offs, Bondi Rescue, The Checkout, Go Back To Where You Came From and The Full Brazilian amongst others.

Reality Check has been commissioned for eight half-hour episodes and will screen in the third quarter of 2014. It wi feature experts including past contestants and judges.

CJZ's Managing Director Nick Murray said, “Reality is dramatic, funny, poignant, and in many ways, reflects our community more accurately than any other genre.

“This series examines how it works and asks the question: if Stephen Spielberg is a genius for making audiences cry, why shouldn't reality producers be lauded for doing the same thing?”
