Empire Of The Sun Causes Apparent In-band Rift Over Billy Graham Tribute

'I was quite upset to see this post.'

More Empire Of The Sun Empire Of The Sun

Empire of the Sun have ruffled some feathers and seemingly created an in-band riff over their tribute to evangelical preacher Billy Graham, who passed away on Wednesday.

A post was uploaded to the official Empire Of The Sun Instagram yesterday with the caption "God bless the great Billy Graham" which has incited which has since incited a large amount of negative feedback from the public including Empire Of The Sun's own Nick Littlemore.

"Not all of us are interested in celebrating the life of a bigot #fyi," Littlemore commented from his personal account before responding to a fan that criticised the post with "I don’t run this account! I was quite upset to see this post".

Opinions are torn over the late Graham with some praising his wide-reaching approach to Christianity while others regarded him a homophobe due to his condemnation of same-sex marriage and his claim that there are ways to “overcome homosexuality”.

In a statement given to triple j, a representative from Empire of the Sun's label said that the band handles their social accounts "themselves most of the time."
