The Electronic Music Conference is shoring up its live-performance contingent for this December
Sydney's Electronic Music Conference is less than a couple of months away now, and its 2014 iteration continues to expand with the introduction of the inaugural EMC Play showcase/performance program, now open for artist submissions to play alongside some of the finest talent in the country.
The two-night emerging-artist showcase, held across several venues and clubs in the Kings Cross precinct on December 3-4, will feature a line-up of acts sourced from more than 30 of the nation's foremost electronic organisations from across the industry — labels, media, agencies — such as Future Classic, Lucky Entertainment, Konkrete, Vicious, Sweat It Out and more.
This year's conference theme is Discovery, so it is fitting that this year marks the first appearance of the EMC Play program, "a crucial stepping stone in discovering the next Flume or the next Will Sparks", according to conference founder Neil Ackland. "It gives artists the opportunity to perform in front of some of the world's biggest talent buyers and A&R executives, who are coming to Australia exclusively for EMC."
Successful applicants for EMC Play will perform alongside some of the yet-to-be-announced high-profile acts on offer, as well as have the chance to snag a $5000 international travel grant, sponsored by Jack Daniel's Future Legends initiative.

EMC Play expands the already comprehensive spread of conference activity on offer at EMC, including an A-list of artist and industry speakers such as Steve Aoki, Nina Las Vegas and Peking Duk. The showcase's full line-up of artists, events and venues will be dropped early next month, but you can get across all things EMC at the event's website in the interim.
EMC and EMC Play, part of ARIA Week, are backed by Destination NSW and the Australia Council, and will be held across not only Kings Cross but Darlinghurst as well. Early-bird tickets are on sale now ($29+bf) — full-price will set you back $49+bf. Punters on full delegate passes (from $299 for students) will receive priority entry to all EMC Play's showcases plus the two days of conferences, networking opportunities and welcome drinks.
