More Em Rusciano More Em Rusciano

Em Rusciano announced on air this morning that she is leaving her 2DayFM breakfast show gig.

After two years with the network, the radio host and comedian confirmed that she will finish up at the end of the week and revealed she made the decision after falling pregnant earlier this year.

“This Friday will be my last day on-air for 2Day FM breakfast, and I want to make it crystal clear that this is entirely my decision and not one I made lightly," Rusciano said.

“The truth is when I found out I was pregnant, I made my mind up on the spot that this year would be my last year of breakfast radio. I had intended to work through until December, but as my pregnancy is progressing I’m finding it increasingly harder to fulfil the requirements of my job. So after talking it through with my family, and my boss Gemma, it was decided that I should finish up."

The news means 2DayFM will be forced to reshuffle its breakfast line-up yet again, which has struggled to find any consistency since the departure of Kyle & Jackie O in 2014.

Following the departure of her former co-host, Harley Breen, in 2017, Rusciano was later joined by new co-hosts, Ed Kavalee and Grant Denyer, however the breakfast show has struggled to compete for ratings against other FM shows, which is consistent with former teams who have fronted 2DayFM breakfast, including Rove & Sam and Dan & Maz.

There has also been rumours of a rift between Rusciano and Kavalee, while Rusciano spoke openly about the gig with Wil Anderson on his podcast, Wilosophy, earlier this year.

"I don’t think I’m suited to breakfast radio," she said.

"I, all of a sudden, got two co-hosts that I’d never really met or spoken to, and then I’m expected to have this instant chemistry with.

"And it was just hectic. And it was The Em Rusciano Radio Show. It was my show, and all of a sudden Ed’s anchoring."
