Today, the all-star album Mushroom: 50 Years Of Making Noise (Reimagined) has finally landed after a string of singles preceded the release in recent months.
Led by international superstar Ed Sheeran putting his own spin on the Hunters & Collectors classic, Throw Your Arms Around Me; he strips the song right back. It’s just Sheeran and an acoustic guitar for a majority of the song’s runtime, with backing vocalists joining him during the anthemic chorus. You can listen to the cover below.
Sheeran is joined by a multitude of Australian talent, including Amy Shark covering Kylie Minogue (Can’t Get You Out Of My Head), The Temper Trap covering The Church (Under The Milky Way), Magic Dirt taking on The Saints’ (I’m) Stranded, Alex Lahey honouring Skyhooks (Ego Is Not A Dirty Word), The Rubens covering New Zealand icons Split Enz (One Step Ahead), Budjerah and WILSN bringing tears to our eyes with the Crowded House classic Better Be Home Soon, Dan Sultan honouring Archie Roach (Took The Children Away), and many more.
You can check out the entire Mushroom 50 album tracklist below.
“What a remarkable collective of artists to reimagine some of the greatest Mushroom songs throughout our 50 years,” Mushroom Group Chief Executive Matt Gudinski said in a press release. “To complete the series with the release of Ed Sheeran singing one of Australia’s greatest songs, Throw Your Arms Around Me, is a reflection of the relationships we hold with artists all over the world. A truly special moment for a special song.”
