As Daniel Johns readies himself to hit the road next month for a series of east coast ‘In Conversation’ dates, veteran broadcaster Dylan Lewis has been announced as the other half of those conversations.
Last month, the Silverchair vocalist announced his In Conversation: What If The Future Never Happened? Tour, where fans are invited to experience four nights of storytelling, film and music.
Johns will be hitting stages along the East Coast in celebration of his forthcoming short film, What If The Future Never Happened?, and will unveil the worldwide premiere at these special shows.
Each screening of the highly anticipated featurette will be accompanied by an hour-long on-stage conversation with Johns. He’s set to discuss his early life and creative process, share never-before-seen photos, archival footage, and unreleased recordings, including unheard demos from Neon Ballroom, Young Modern, and other ideas that never made it to a sixth Silverchair album.
Joining Johns onstage will be “beloved broadcaster, musician and unicorn,” Dylan Lewis, alongside Creative Director Luke Eblen.
Lewis will assume the role of MC, utilising his infectious energy, quick wit, and deep love of music along the way. These days known for his role as a host on Double J, Lewis first rose to fame in the ‘90s as host of iconic ABC music show Recovery, where he interviewed Johns alongside his Silverchair bandmates.

The four date tour launches on Saturday, November at Sydney's State Theatre, before visiting Newcastle, Brisbane, and Melbourne over the next two weeks. The Newcastle and Brisbane dates are sold out, with limited tickets remaining for the Sydney event.
What If The Future Never Happened? was directed by James Medlam and is described as a “genre-bending, semi-autobiographical featurette that puts reality and fantasy in a hyper-speed spin cycle.” Filmed in 2022, Johns made the call to hold it back while completing the project and celebrated the 30th anniversary of Silverchair’s acclaimed debut, Frogstomp.
“Child fame is a funny thing,” Johns said of the tour on social media. There’s a fleeting moment, an ‘in between’ where you know everything is about to change. It’s scary, it’s exciting, it’s irreversible.
“Before Frogstomp and before Silverchair became popular there was a 14-year-old boy in Newcastle writing riffs and songs.
“‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ is a story told through the anamorphic lens of the human memory. A lens that is distorted, surreal and honest at them same time. A biopsy rather than a biopic.
“After some time away from the spotlight, I’m nervous and excited about premiering the Featurette in some of Australia’s most iconic theatres,” he added. “I’ll also join you in person to talk music and open up my demo vault to play music I’ve written over the last 3 decades. It will be chaotic, spontaneous and hopefully fun.”
Tickets to Johns’ upcoming dates are on sale now.
