Dune Rats are heading out on tour in support of their upcoming fifth album If It Sucks, Turn It Up – and they’re taking US punk favourites FIDLAR along for the ride, announcing a co-headline tour today (June 18).

The ten-date trek will kick off on Wednesday August 28, with FIDLAR and the Dunies taking over The Station in Jindabyne. They’ll follow it up with another trio of back-to-back gigs in NSW, hitting Waves in Wollongong the following night (August 29), then Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Friday August 30, and Newcastle’s Bar On The Hill on Saturday August 31.

After a few days of recovery, the mosh-fest will continue with a show at the Hindley Street Music Hall in Adelaide, scheduled for Thursday September 5. Up next on the itinerary will be Melbourne (with a show at The Forum locked in for Friday September 6), followed by an intimate gig at the infamous Torquay Hotel on Saturday September 7.

Wrapping up the tour will be three dates up north: Thursday September 12 will see the two bands (plus their as-yet-unannounced support acts) play The Station on the Sunshine Coast, then The Tivoli in Brisbane the following night (September 13), and finally the Kingscliff Hotel on Saturday September 14.

Tickets for all ten shows go on sale at 9am local time this Friday (June 21), following a fan-exclusive presale that kicks off at the same time a day earlier (June 20) – head here to register for that presale, or bookmark this link for the general sale.

In a group statement, FIDLAR described the Dunies as being “like your favorite cousin that you only get to see every couple of years”. They quipped, “You've known them forever, you like them more than some of your other cousins, you crack each other up, get into trouble, have a few heart-to-hearts even... When we get together, it’s like a psycho little family reunion!!! Truly kindred Ledge Lords!”

The sentiment was shared by the Dunies themselves, saying in a joint message of their own: “The FIDLAR [and] Dunies relationship has honestly been a touring brotherhood that has seen us ping-pong all over the world. It’s been the best part of a decade playing shows together that started when they first came to Australia doing venues half the size of the ones we are playing on this tour.

“Showing them the Aussie diet of beer and BBQs, plus a bit of surfing and partying, meant that when we wanted to tour the US, they bundled us into a van and [we] spent three months seeing the States – from gator back-scratchers in Florida to the bright lights of New York City. We went to the UK last year to play shows together and that’s where this tour came to fruition. Can’t wait to show them how crazy it is to play in Australia this time round, [and we] will definitely fit a few snags in too.”

Both FIDLAR and the Dunies have new records on the way: the former trio will release their fourth full-length effort, Surviving The Dream, on September 20 – while If It Sucks, Turn It Up will arrive a little over a month earlier on August 9 (as the Dunies announced last month alongside new single Cheapskate).

According to the Dunies, LP5 will be their most adventurous outing to date, with Regurgitator’s iconic 1997 album Unit being cited as a primary inspiration. Singer and guitarist Danny Beus said upon its announcement: “We wanted to make an album that throws you around a bit, like you are being washed around in the surf. We’re five albums in now, so we knew it should be a record that shows all the different sides to the band.”
