Veteran US progressive metal outfit Dream Theater will be returning to Australia next year, bringing their ongoing 40th Anniversary Tour to local shores in February.
Officially dubbed ‘An Evening With Dream Theater – 40th Anniversary Tour,’ the group’s forthcoming Australian trek will kick off in Adelaide's Hindley Street Music Hall on February 10th, before visiting Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena, the ICC Sydney Theatre, and Brisbane's Fortitude Music Hall over the coming days.
The tour takes place in celebration of the group’s ongoing ruby anniversary celebrations, which launched last year in honour of their 1985 formation.
Coming together in in Boston, Massachusetts that year under the name Majesty, the group – which was co-founded by guitarist John Petrucci, bassist John Myung, and drummer Mike Portnoy – adopted their most famous moniker in 1988, releasing their debut album the following year.
Portnoy would depart the group in 2010, with Mike Mangini taking his place. However, in 2023, Portnoy resumed his most iconic role, appearing on his first album in 16 years only this year which the release of Parasomnia.
“The excitement we have felt from the fans since the first leg of this tour was announced has been overwhelming!” the band said of their upcoming Australian dates. “Now we get to bring the show to our fans all across the world, and play a bunch of cities that we haven’t been together in for more than a decade.
