Australian music icons Crowded House have urged fans not to fall for an AI video that has made the rounds on social media, noting that it’s not frontman Neil Finn that appears in the clip.
The band shared the video to their Facebook account on Saturday, with the video itself purporting to be an interview with Finn following the fake news that he had fathered another child.
“ Public outcry in New Zealand after legendary singer Neil Finn became a father again at the age of 67,” the newsreader said at the beginning of the video. “And [Finn] now claims that doctors have been hiding a simple way for men to restore their sexual power at any age.”
The clip then cuts to an AI-generated clip of Finn, who goes on to spruik a treatment for men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
“I never thought I'd be able to become a father again,” the fake Finn states. “Honestly, I believe that chapter of my life was closed, not because I didn't want it, but because I simply couldn't.
“For years I lived with a problem. Most men are too ashamed to talk about. My erections became weaker and weaker until they stopped altogether. No desire, no confidence, no control. I was too embarrassed to even talk to my wife about it.”

We're not sure where this came from but please don't be fooled. Neil's never had trouble with erections

The clip goes for a full three minutes, with the AI-generated Finn going so far as to add in a call to action to encourage potential users to get behind this treatment, while also adding he’s “received threats” due to apparent attempts to ban the method he’s speaking about. “I won't stay silent because I see how men are reclaiming their lives,” the fake Finn claims.
In a simple and concise post shared to Facebook, the Crowded House account urge their myriad followers not to be taken in by the obvious fake. “We're not sure where this came from but please don't be fooled,” they pleaded. “Neil's never had trouble with erections.”
While the latter piece of info is undoubtedly good to know, it’s worth pointing out that Finn has not fathered another child, with sons Liam and Elroy Finn completing his immediate family.
Elsewhere, Crowded House have recently announced a run of pop-up shows taking place across Australia throughout October and November. Tickets to those shows are on sale now.
