If anyone has experienced a truly happy new year thus far, it would have to be US producer Diplo, who rang in 2025 by appearing on live television while under the influence of LSD.

Diplo made the revelation shortly before midnight on US network CNN’s New Year's Eve Live broadcast, speaking to hosts Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. When the latter asked Diplo about the “most conventional place” he’d taken LSD, the producer admitted he was in fact under the influence as they spoke.

“Right now,” Diplo admitted. “I did some on the helicopter on the way here, I’m not even lying.”

As Cohen and Cooper descended into fits of laughter, they attempted to follow the conversational thread. “You’re tripping right now?” Cohen asked increduously. “Yeah, but it’s like a light trip,” came the reply.

Noting that he had been microdosing LSD, he admitted he may have in fact “macrodosed” earlier in the day. “Was it the LSD spray?” Cohen continued, before Diplo explained that he’d been using a dropper to partake in the drug.

After suggesting that perhaps they should cut the segment, Cohen reminded the producer that the broadcast was in fact live, while Cooper added that they “don’t recommend this at home”.

Despite the memorable appearance, Cohen later shared his admiration for the musician. “I wish I was Diplo, I’ve got to say,” he said. “I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle? ‘I’m Diplo. I do things.’”

Cooper also added that he lives a “boring life compared to Diplo’s”.

This isn’t the first time that Diplo had engaged in illicit drug use while undertaking everyday events, previously admitting he had ingested LSD ahead of running the 2023 Los Angeles marathon.

“It really motivated me, because I was running at the fastest pace I’ve ever ran,” he explained. “You also have all these runners around you, so your energy’s there. I was running a seven-minute mile for the first eight miles, which is crazy. I really paid for it in the end of the marathon."

"But that first two hours was a breeze, man,” he continued. “It was so fast. And maybe acid has a different effect on people, but for me, those first two hours, which is usually the scariest part of a marathon, just went by so quickly."
