The iconic trio return Down Under for a seven-show run in January
Legendary indie-rock outfit Dinosaur Jr have announced a run of Australian tour dates for this coming January in support of lauded new album Give A Glimpse Of What Yer Not.
No strangers to local shores, the iconic original trio of J Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph seem a reinvigorated force in the wake of the new LP, their first full-length release since 2012 and fourth since reconvening more than a decade ago, in 2005. Back then, it was unfathomable that, in 2016 — more than 30 years after the band's debut full-length, Dinosaur, and nearly 20 years on from their initial tumultuous dissolution — Dinosaur Jr would not just be still playing together but actually making new music, but we're not remotely complaining that things have panned out that way, believe us. God bless that work ethic, because we're all about to benefit from it in a big way.
Indeed, even their tour here goes beyond the usual three-date east-coast commitment most internationals afford us, kicking off, yes, in Sydney (Metro Theatre, Thursday 12 January), and heading to Brisbane (The Triffid, 13 January), but also including dates on the Gold Coast (Miami Hotel, 14 January) and in Byron Bay (The Northern, 15 January), Perth (Capital, Wednesday 18 January) and Adelaide (The Gov, 19 January) before making it to Melbourne to close out the tour at The Croxton on Friday 20 January.
Tickets for Dinosaur Jr's 2017 Australian tour go on sale from this Monday, 29 August, through a variety of outlets. See theGuide for all the booking information.
