He returns after thirty years
Former Dead Kennedys frontman Jello Biafra has dropped word that he will be returning to Australian shores to play his first live band performance shows for 30 years, bringing with him his new musical project The Guantanamo School of Medicine.
Formed in 2009 and inspired by the Iggy Pop 60th birthday performance and Australia's Radio Birdman, the project features former Rollins Band and Ween bassist Andrew Weiss, Paul Della Pelle on drums, as well as Kimo Ball and Ex-Victims Family's Ralph Spight on twin guitars – the outfit quickly recording the Audicity Of Hype full length.
Fans loved the retained Dead Kennedys' chaos of the record, as well as the addition of the Detroit style proto-punk and layers of sonic guitar, the band going on to release EPs through 2011 and 2012 before White People And The Damage Done this year, Biafra's first concept record since Dead Kennedys' Frankenchrist.
White People And The Damage Done concentrates on gruesome and controversial political topics corruption and media lies and scandal and US foreign policy, Biafra continuing to speak his mind through wise-guy lyricism.
The former Dead Kennedys frontman has selected some personal Australian favourites of his to join The Guantanamo School of Medicine on the road, with Grong Grong, Hard-Ons, Useless Children and Zeahorse and more playing their respective support slots.
