The prestigious Mercury Prize nominees for 2016 have finally been revealed this morning, with David Bowie's "parting gift" to the world, Blackstar, receiving a posthumous nomination for Album Of The Year.

Alongside Blackstar, which topped album charts in Australia and around the world, experimental artist Anohni's Hopelessness, Radiohead's fifth record A Moon Shaped Pool, The 1975's I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It and Savages' Adore Life all scored nominations for the £25,000 prize.

As BBC notes, despite being the highest selling albums during the Mercury Prize's eligibility period, Adele's 25 and Coldplay's A Head Full Of Dreams were omitted from this year's nominations.
