“It talks about how precarious it can be to open yourself up."
The release of Darren Middleton’s forthcoming studio album TIDES is almost within reach, and the singer-songwriter has today given fans another taste of what expect with new single Some People and its accompanying music video.
The new song features guest vocals from Kelly Lane of Skipping Girl Vinegar fame, and, as Middleton explains, explores the idea of “trying to find yourself in today’s world of immersion and over sharing”.
“It talks about how precarious it can be to open yourself up, for people to dissect, so you keep a little of yourself for safekeeping,” he said.
Middleton recruited Melbourne-based director Nathan Dalton for the song’s video, who had been a fan of his music since “the early Powderfinger days”.

“The lyrics to Some People talk of how people change over time, but rather than the visuals reflecting this, we chose to tell an abstract story of Darren navigating through various worlds, singing and playing while he searches for a mystical woman,” Dalton explains.
To celebrate the release of TIDES on September 21, Middleton will play Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in October.
