Danielle Moore, the lead singer of the English dance/electronic music group Crazy P, has died. She was 52.

The news was shared via the band’s Instagram account yesterday (2 September), where they wrote that Moore passed away in “sudden and tragic circumstances.”

Crazy P’s post reads:

We are devastated to announce the unbelievable and shocking news that our beautiful Danielle Moore has died in sudden and tragic circumstances. This happened on Friday afternoon August 30th. We cannot believe the news ourselves and we know it will be the same for all of you. She gave us so much and we love her so much. Our hearts are broken. We need time to process that this has happened. Danielle lived a life driven by love compassion community and music. She lived the biggest of lives. We will miss her with all our hearts X

Moore’s cause of death hasn’t been revealed.

As The Guardian notes, Moore was based in Manchester before relocating to Todmorden, West Yorkshire. She previously said that Crazy P being the opening act for Faithless on their 2005/2006 tour changed everything for the band.

Crazy P was formed in 1995 by band members Chris Todd and Jim Baron under the original name of Crazy Penis. By 2002, the group had expanded, adding bassist Tim Davies, percussionist Mav Kendricks, and Danielle Moore. By 2008, the band started using the name Crazy P.

The band developed a strong fanbase in Australia, touring here on numerous occasions. Crazy P released seven studio albums as well as remix albums, with their most recent studio LP, Age Of The Ego, released in 2019. Following the release of the album, Moore was quoted as saying it’s “probably the most proud I am of an album, lyrically speaking.”

Tributes are pouring following Moore’s passing. Defected Records wrote, “We are devastated to hear of the passing of Danielle Moore of Crazy P 💔

“More than just a singer, Danielle was a force of nature — a beacon of joy, energy, and creativity who lit up every stage and room that she graced. Her passion for music was palpable, and it resonated with everyone who had the privilege of meeting her, or seeing her perform.

“Sending our love to @crazypmusic, Danielle’s friends & family, and everyone who knew her. A very sad day for dance music.”

Sister Bliss (of Rollo & Sister Bliss and Faithless) added, “Shocked to hear tragic news about the lovely & talented Danielle Moore @crazypmusic who supported @faithless on our tour back in the day & had pleasure of sharing the stage with so recently … they were going from strength to strength :( Just awful. Rest in Power lady 🖤”.
