In conjunction with the Brisbane City Council and QMusic Winter Sessions festival, next month a brand new industry event will emerge, with the announcement of the inaugural The Courage Collective.

Designed to represent a safe, diverse and inclusive space for women and non-binary people in the music and arts industries, The Courage Collective was initially conceived by 97 Joyride Agency founder Zoe Maras and artist and educator JESA as a live event series, aimed at honouring diversity in the arts, while also offering a space where women and non-binary industry folk can come together to be seen, heard and acknowledged.

“The Courage Collective is a conceptualised safe space that celebrates us as creatives and allows us to find empowerment and joy through community," Maras said in a recent press announcement.

"It’s about story-telling, expression and release through music, art and conversation."

Set to take place at The Zoo in Brisbane on Sunday 8 August, The Courage Collective will feature an array of events, including an industry panel, live art and performances geared to raising awareness and sparking conversations about the ongoing struggles faced by many in the creative industries around the country and beyond.

Featuring key industry members Leanne de Souza (Nightlife Music, QPAC), Ali Tomoana (Soul Has No Tempo Records), Andrea Kirwin (Peace Run Records), Damien Johnson (non-binary artist) and The Courage Collective co-creator Zoe Maras lined up for the panel discussion, the brand new event will also have sturdy input from the industry charity stalwart Support Actproviding mental health resources on the night.
