"It's still crazy to us that people are taking a couple of cousins from Tassie semi-seriously."
EMI Music has bolstered its electronic/dance rep with gusto, announcing today that they have officially signed Gold Coast party-starters Choomba.
Recently tapped to helm triple j's new dance music show The Nudge every Friday night, taking the baton from The Aston Shuffle who hosted the show for more than a decade on Friday Night Shuffle, Choomba have firmly found themselves in demand since their huge 2020 banger La Luh and recent track Say It took out triple j's 'Most Played' status earlier this year.
Joining the likes of The Avalanches, Troye Sivan, 5 Seconds Of Summer and many more in the EMI Music family, Choomba are set to explode even further as 2021 draws to a close.
"We're so stoked to be working with the legends at EMI, it's still crazy to us that people are taking a couple of cousins from Tassie semi-seriously," said the band of the signing.
"We started this to have a bit of fun to play some different tunes in little clubs and now we're getting played on radio and getting booked for these massive festivals - feels pretty surreal because we haven't really properly got to experience it with all the COVID restrictions, but yeah we're just happy to now have a team around us to help step the project up"
The feeling of adoration is clearly mutual, with EMI Music General Manager of A&R Mark Holland also singing the praises of Choomba today.

“We feel lucky having Choomba joining the EMI roster and trusting us with the next steps," Holland said of the signing.
"They’re poised to become the next elite electronic act hailing from Australia with global ambition alongside their sharp managerial confidant, Gabe Bravo from Cloak Entertainment. Can’t wait to get these tunes out in the wild!”
For now, below is a round-up video about how the two cousins from Tasmania made it to the 'big smoke to have a crack at the music biz'.
