Chappell RoanChapell Roan has responded to backlash towards her risqué outfit worn during the Grammy Awards Red Carpet on Sunday (1 February).
Upon her arrival at the Grammy Awards Red Carpet, the Pink Pony Club singer entered the scene in a “sheer, hooded Mugler gown,” per Consequence of Sound. When she undid the hood, Roan revealed a maroon dress that looked to be held up using a pair of nipple rings.
In a Fox News report, Roan was the subject of criticism for wearing an “eye-catching” costume, with the publication’s contributor, Raymond Arroyo, describing some of the outfits on the Grammy Awards Red Carpet as a “spectacle of nudity, combined with a clown aesthetic.”
Focusing on Roan, Arroyo described her look as an “unfortunate fashion choice.” Backlash also ensued on social media, with users on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram telling the singer to “put on some clothes” and deeming her outfit inappropriate for the event.
The criticism doesn’t seem to matter to Roan, who posted a photo of herself on social media from the Red Carpet with the caption, “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit,” she wrote on Instagram. “The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly :D”.

Last year, Roan took home the coveted Best New Artist award. She presented the trophy to this year’s winner, Olivia Dean, during the weekend’s ceremony. Roan’s single, The Subway, was nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. But, she didn’t win either award.
The Good Luck, Babe! hitmaker has won over audiences in Australia, though—as this year’s Laneway Festival headliner, her music has led to an in-demand, unmissable showcase.
Joining Roan at this month’s travelling festival are Wolf Alice, Alex G, Geese, PinkPantheress, Wet Leg, Teen Jesus And The Jean Teasers, and many others, with Roan scheduled to perform a 90-minute headlining set.
