Bruce Springsteen Biopic & 'Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie' Lead SXSW Sydney Screen Announcement

SXSW Sydney has just dropped the Headliners for its 2025 Screen Festival, and it’s massive.

Leading the charge is the highly anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic, Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which will premiere on the festival’s opening night (Monday, 13 October).

Directed by Scott Cooper (Black Mass, Crazy Heart) and starring The Bear's Jeremy Allen White as the music icon, the film is set to explore the period in which Springsteen made his deeply personal 1982 album, Nebraska, plus his complex relationship with his father.

Other films in the Headliners announcement include the Australian premiere of the time-travelling cult comedy film, Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, Ethan Hawke appearing in his “most sinister role” in Black Phone 2, the Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson-starring Die My Love, gory black comedy Bugonia featuring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons, and Australia’s own Rose Byrne in the moving If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

All sessions in the SXSW Sydney Screen Festival can be accessed by anyone with a Platinum Pass, Pro Pass or Screen Wristband.

Those options will grant ticketholders the opportunity to have unlimited access to screenings throughout the event. Those who’d like to catch individual Headliner or Featured film sessions can access Rush Tickets through the SXSW Sydney website.

Today’s announcement follows SXSW Sydney’s recent expansion of its performance and conference line-up.

Over 50 new performers were added to the line-up, including Australian electronic music star Ninajirachi, American indie rockers Whitney, Irish act Picture This making their Australian debut, Canberra punks Sonic Reducer, Sydney-based experimental four-piece xiao xiao, 2charm, Drifting Clouds, and many others.

Additional conference speakers appearing at this year’s SXSW Sydney include musicians Gordi, Ruel, Trials and FELIVAND, who will be offering their insights alongside Danny Rogers (Laneway Festival), Jaddan Comerford (UNIFIED), Alison Bremer (Groupspeed), Anmol Kukreja (Founder, Skillbox India), and more.
