A pair of Brazilian nuns, Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula, have gone viral after beatboxing and dancing live on Catholic television this week.
Footage of the duo has gone outside their native Brazil, making for some truly amazing videos and even getting interviewed by The Associated Press.
The pair appeared on the Brazilian channel, Pai Eterno (Eternal Father), where they discussed a vocational retreat with the show’s panellists. Things took a turn, however, when Sister Marizele started beatboxing, and Sister Marisa started dancing, prompting host Deacon Giovani Bastos to join them and show off his moves.
PBS notes that Sister Marizele currently has over 100,000 followers on Instagram since footage of her beatboxing went viral. At present, Sister Marisa doesn’t have an account on the app, but if she ends up making one, we suspect she’ll gain many followers, too.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Sister Marizele Cassiano described the moment as “spontaneous,” as the pair breaks into song (or beatboxing) and dancing whenever they hear a beat.
“That moment was very spontaneous, because with Sister Marisa, if you start a beat, she will dance,” Sister Marizele said. “And I’m used to singing, to beatboxing, so for us it was very simple, spontaneous and at the same time, very surprising to see that it went viral even outside Brazil.”

Members of the “Copiosa Redenção” congregation, the nuns dedicate their work to reducing drug addiction in young people and cite music as a powerful tool for healing. They also host retreat programs for women seeking religious careers.
Sister Marizele explained, “Beatboxing, dancing, and the songs itself, are tools that God uses to reach the hearts of the people we work with. And it works! It’s beautiful to see.”
Indeed, it is. You can watch footage of the viral moment below.
