'Kōya' will be released at the end of next month
Emergent Melbourne electro-maestro Jordan White, aka Braille Face, has announced that his eagerly awaited debut album, Kōya, will be released at the end of next month, preceding its arrival with the lilting, melancholic beauty of new single Because.
Diverging from the more prominent electronics of Braille Face's similarly captivating album tasters Glow and Backwards/Medicated, the minimalist, ethereal Because showcases the raw purity and power of White's vocals, backed only by untouched soft-pedalled piano and the occasional backing dynamic flourish. It's elegant, downcast, reflective, rainy-day comfort music, constructed thoughtfully and delivered lovingly, and it only serves to further heighten the sense of excitement that should be blossoming inside of you ahead of Kōya's release, because its contents have so far proven to be nothing but total gold.
Braille Face's stunning debut full-length is the first album to be wholly shepherded from creation through to release by resurgent indie label Spirit Level, co-founded by Double J host and musician Tim Shiel and Wally De Backer, aka Gotye. White has actually spent the past month hanging out with De Backer over in New York, writing and recording material — which he says "will most likely be album number 2" — in the man's Stateside home studio and making us all jealous with jet-setting Instagram posts.

You can catch Braille Face in action at a slew of events over the next couple of months; freshly back in the country from his US sojourn, he'll be joining BANFF and Caitlin Park at the Grace Darling Hotel, Collingwood, on Saturday 13 August, as well as heading to the Corner Hotel on Saturday 20 August alongside Japanese Wallpaper and E^ST. Additionally, he has been announced as part of BIGSOUND's 150-strong epic live line-up, so if you're up Brisbane way in a couple of months, make sure he's on your list of must-sees over the nights of 7-8 September.
Kōya is out on Wednesday 31 August via Spirit Level/Inertia. Pre-orders are available now through Bandcamp and iTunes. Check out the album art — commissioned by the team from German illustrator Max Löffler — and track list below.
