The Brissy four-piece will release 'Sourdough' in the lead-up to their second EP
Stalwart Brisbane outfit Born Joy Dead have secured a management deal with industry all-stars Mucho Bravado as they approach the release of their sophomore EP.
The news comes in tandem with the revelation that the band will be releasing a new single titled Sourdough ahead of the new extended player, set to follow in the footsteps of last year's excellent Chains On You in showcasing the band's growing collection of slick and considered indie-rock compositions. The track carries the touch of renowned producer Miro Mackie (Jeremy Neale, The John Steel Singers), and is set to drop later this month, complemented by some yet-to-be-announced launch shows.
Signing with Mucho is both something of a homecoming — the company was the one-time home of BJD frontman Ben Dalton's former band, Hungry Kids Of Hungary — as well as a new beginning for the band, who have only seen their renown grow over the past few years as they've racked up high-profile support slots, headline showings, festival gigs and airtime to become one of the city's buzziest bands. Said reputation was only bolstered with the release of well-received debut EP Stones In My Shoe last year; certainly, their impressiveness was enough to turn the head of Mucho rep and new manager Elizabeth Ansley, who takes the band on as her first management client for the company.
"I first stumbled across Born Joy Dead about two years ago, when they were playing for a support for a gig I was reviewing," Ansley told The Music. "I was a total newbie to the industry at the time, but I knew that I was seeing something special. By the time I began working at Mucho Bravado as a publicist after BJD's incredible debut EP Stones In My Shoe dropped, I was a bona fide fan.

"Their music — so intelligently written without taking itself too seriously, so versatile and innovative — inspired me to broaden my horizons within the music community. I couldn't be more excited to extend my role at Mucho to welcome Born Joy Dead to our management family. Their upcoming single sees them turning a corner into a new, more collaborative era. We can't wait to share it with the world."
