11 December 2013 | 11:59 pm | Dan Condon

It's going to be a real party this Easter.

More Bluesfest More Bluesfest

So far there has been a stack of amazing blues acts, jam bands, modern heroes and classic rockers announced for the 2014 Bluesfest event, but this latest announcement sees the festival organisers encouraging those coming along to get up and dance! A heap of lively acts from across a variety of musical genres have been enlisted, the majority of them playing the kind of music that will have your arse shaking and your face beaming.

Here's the announcement:

Jeff Beck, KC & The Sunshine Band, Gov't Mule, WAR, Seun Kuti & Egypt 80, Sly & Robbie and The TAXI Gang feat. Bitty Mclean, Jason Isbell, Chali 2na, Kate Miller-Heidke, Seth Lakeman

Here's how the festival is sounding:

Here's what we reckon:

Jeff Beck

He is frequently considered to be one of the best guitarists on the planet and Jeff Beck is coming back to Byron in 2014. He was a big part of The Yardbirds for a short amount of time, before leaving to pursue a solo career that has seen him play everything from jazz to blues to hard rock to fusion. Put simply, this is one guitarist you simply do not want to miss if you have a passion for the instrument, he'll blow your mind.

KC & The Sunshine Band

The songs speak for themselves; That's the Way (I Like It), ‎Get Down Tonight, (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty, I'm Your Boogie Man… the list goes on. KC & The Sunshine Band are pretty much the ultimate party band and they are going to get your arse moving as they bring their mammoth live show back to Australia for the first time in years. They've sold over 100 million records over the past 40 years and the songs are still bona-fide party starting anthems – this is gonna be a lot of fun.

War

While they have been through something along the lines of 30 members in their 45 years of existence, the music of the legendary WAR has never lost its relevance and it remains as fresh and exciting today as it ever was. One of the most sampled bands of all time, this Los Angeles funk collective – still led by founding member Lonnie Jordan – are ABOUT TO HIT Australia for the very first time and will be making Bluesfest a part of their exciting journey.

Seun Kuti & Egypt 80

Sure, his dad was Fela Kuit, one of the most important musicians of all time and pretty much invented the afrobeat genre, but Seun Kuti doesn't let such lofty expectations affect him by the looks of things. This man is an incredibly powerful performer and lovers of high octane African music who make it to Bluesfest this year will easily see that. He will lead the amazing, legendary Egypt 80 band – the band who backed his father – through a seriously energetic set of incredible afrobeat. We're going to be going to the gym to prepare to dance up a storm on this one.

Sly & Robbie & The Taxi Gang

Okay, let's try this again. Sly & Robbie are the greatest reggae rhythm section of all time and they were initially set to be playing alongside guitarist Ernest Ranglin and vocalist Bitty McLean at Bluesfest 2014. Ranglin's not coming now, but Sly & Robbie and Bitty are still planning on making the trip, but now they will be bringing their Taxi Gang act out to Australia. Who's in the band? We'll have to wait and see; but we can tell you that McLean will be on board.

Chali 2na

We just found out that his group Jurassic 5 would be in Australia as their reformation tour continues, but Bluesfest audiences will also get to see Chali 2na in solo mode next Easter. He is one of the great hip hop artists of the past couple of decades, bringing an energy and a sense of positivity to everything that he does; you just can't help but feel good after seeing him perform. It will be interesting to see if 2na makes an appearance with his old band Ozomatli during the festival…

Gov't Mule

Warren Haynes' band of southern rockin' merry men Gov't Mule haven't been to Bluesfest in over a decade (though Haynes himself appeared a couple of years back), so they'll be welcomed back with open arms. Particularly given the track list of their new record; the band have brought fellow Bluesfest acts like Dr John, Dave Matthews, Elvis Costello, Grace Potter into the studio to be a part of Shout!, which makes us think there are going to be some serious jam sessions happening in Byron over Easter.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit

He was formerly a Drive-By Trucker but for a long time now Jason Isbell has been proving himself as one of the truly great Americana artists to come out of the thriving country/roots scene in the US. He is hitting Bluesfest next year with his full band in tow – something we haven't yet witnessed, but can't wait to – and he'll be bringing with him a whole stack of amazing tunes; he really is one of the great American songwriters right now.

Kate Miller-Heidke

A darling of the Australian scene for many a year now, and by the time Bluesfest rolls around Kate Miller-Heidke will have released her brand new, independent, crowd funded solo LP. We're not sure in what direction she's heading musically, but we can pretty much guarantee you that, given the sheer talent of this artist and the band that backs her up – it's gonna be pretty impressive.

Seth Lakeman

This Irish multi-instrumentalist/songwriter impressed plenty of people upon his 2013 festival appearance, so he's back on the books for 2014 to bring a little English folk music to proceedings. Since his last visit he has been touring pretty much non-stop, so you can bet that the shows next year will probably be even better than the brilliant ones we witnessed this Easter. Seth Lakeman's virtuosic musicianship and unique songwriting nous have won over thousands around the world, don't miss your chance to be a new devotee.
