"For years the Judy has been the home to our beloved event, and we had many incredible moments over there. But after 18 years a change like this represented a fresh look at our industry..."
BIGSOUND has today confirmed details for its 2019 event, including the announcement of a brand new home for the annual conference.
The Brisbane spectacle will once again return to Fortitude Valley from 3-6 September but will now be based out of the Cloudland venue, moving away from its usual home of the Judith Wright Centre.
"When the idea came up that the conference venue move from JWC to Cloudland, something clicked," BIGSOUND's executive programmer Maggie Collins told The Music.
"For years the Judy has been the home to our beloved event, and we had many incredible moments over there. But after 18 years a change like this represented a fresh look at our industry, which we're in the business of here at BIGSOUND.
"The entire QMusic team had a tour of every nook and cranny of Cloudland, and aside from the sentence 'I want to move here' being uttered by our team a few times, we were as excited with the new space as kids in a new fort. So many activities!
"The ideas are flowing for how we're going to make the most of every corner of the site and one of the most exciting things is how much closer it is to the hub of excitement and atmosphere that comes with the Valley and our venues."

This year's conference will be centred on the theme 'The Artist As CEO' and is the first year for BIGSOUND's new programming team, which includes Collins and Shihad/VVV Management's Tom Larkin who will assist with conference programming, and Twnty Three's Melody Forghani and Spirit Level/Double J's Tim Shiel who join the live music team.
In addition to the conference's usual Tech and Hook Up events, this year sees the introduction of the WTF series of mini-workshops, focusing on helping simplifying topics like blockchain, neighbouring rights and more.
The live music program will again be a huge focus for the event, with room for more than 150 acts on this year's line-up. Applications to showcase are now open through the BIGSOUND website. For more details, click here.
