Australian Idol will return to our screens via Channel 7 and 7plus on Monday, 29 January 2024.

The beloved reality singing competition series stars returning hosts Ricki-Lee Coulter and Scott Tweedie, while the new trailer for next year’s season features the voice of Marcia Hines. There’s been no reveal of the fourth judge yet, with Hines expected to be joined by this year’s judges, Amy Shark and Kyle Sandilands.

Meghan Trainor and Harry Connick Jr., who were judges on the 2023 reboot season of Australian Idol, are both out, with speculation leading to the fourth chair being reserved for a rotating roster of special guest judges, including Adam Lambert.

You can watch the two-minute trailer for the 2024 season below, in which Ricki-Lee commented on Facebook, “I cried watching this! So excited for everyone to meet & fall in love with these incredibly talented singers!”

Marcia Hines hinted at her full-time return to Australian Idol next year back in July. “It looks like I’m doing it again this year,” she said on the Jess Rowe Big Talk Show. “I look forward to it.”

Discussing her original 2000s run on the show, she continued, “It was a wonderful thing to nurture and try and help people who just want to be in the entertainment business.

“These kids were plucked out of obscurity and thrown on the biggest TV show Australia has ever seen. And it was just before social media got crazy.”

TV Tonight confirmed the star’s return for the 2024 season in October.

In February, Hines appeared on the debut season of the Australian Idol reboot, an experience she felt “honoured” by. “I’m returning to Australian Idol in 2023 as a guest judge!” Hines said. “I feel honoured to have been asked to come back. Australian Idol is a great vehicle for uncovering some fantastic Australian talent. What a ride!”

Earlier this month, Australian Idol host and alum Ricki-Lee announced her first new album in ten years, On My Own, and unveiled a new single, Ghost.
