Australian actor and star of the popular Wolf Creek films, John Jarratt, has denied accusations of sexual assault which allegedly occurred in the 1970s.
According to The Daily Telegraph, the matter is now being investigated after a woman approached Shoalhaven police.
The assault allegedly occurred while the woman was working in the entertainment industry.
"Police are investigating an allegation of a historical sexual assault on Sydney’s eastern beaches," a police spokesman said.
"The allegations were reported to police earlier this month and relate to a matter from the 1970s."
Jarratt, 65, responded to the allegations in a statement via his management representative at Ignite Elite Artists.
"John emphatically and completely denies the allegations of sexual assault," the statement reads.
"These allegations are completely unfounded and untrue."
As well as his role as Mick Taylor in Wolf Creek, Jarratt has appeared on a number of famous Australian TV series, including Blue Heelers, Water Rats and Better Homes & Gardens.
Jarratt is currently scheduled to appear in Sydney next week for the second season premiere of the TV spin-off series of Wolf Creek before it airs on Stan next month.
