360Guy Sebastian has reached the top of the ARIA Album Charts with his album Armageddon after performing at the ARIA Awards last week. Sebastian, who performed his single Battle Scars with Lupe Fiasco at the awards, has beaten boyband Once Direction's Take Me Home (two) and fellow ARIA performer Taylor Swift, who is up to third with her album Red. The chart boosts from the ARIA Awards were felt all the way through, with 360, Hilltop Hoods, The Sapphires, The Jezabels and The Temper Trap all benefiting.
San Cisco – who were at the awards but not directly involved – make the highest local debut this week, with San Cisco entering at 17. The highest debut came from Little Mix with DNA at ten, followed by Alicia Keys at 12 with Girl On Fire. Stereosonic artist Example, who presented an award at the ARIAs, debuted at 40 with The Evolution Of Man.
ARIA winner 360's Falling & Flying re-entered the Album Chart at 47 for its 58th week, albeit non-consecutive.
There's a big discrepancy between the overall Album Chart and the Digital Album Chart this week, likely down to Christmas buying trends as non regular consumers head to physical stores for 'brand artists' while regular music buyers continue to go for non-holiday releases online.
In the Digital Chart there's two Aussies in the top five – The Rubens' The Rubens up to two from eight and Flume's Flume up to four from five – with San Cisco debuting at six. The Temper Trap are up to 22 with their self-titled second record, 11 spots higher post-ARIA Awards, with Hilltop Hoods re-entering at 48 with Drinking From The Sun.
The Jezabels, who won the Best Independent Release ARIA, enter the Music DVD chart this week at 20 with Live At The Hordern. Coldplay remain at number one with Live 2012, while Mardi Gras bound Tina Arena's Symphony Of Life debuted at four.
But it's not just ARIA-related boosts this week, the hype around Tame Impala's topping of NME's album of the year list, on top of winning the triple j award for Album Of The Year, has Lonerism re-entering the overall album chart at 33, and re-entering the Digital Chart at 19.
Finally, there's been a switch at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz's Thrift Shop taking top spot from X-Factor's Samantha Jade's What You've Done To Me, which drops to two. Local boy band The Collective debut at six withy Surrender.
