Best Original Score longlist has been revealed.
Among the big guns like John Williams, Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, there are a number of more indie-leaning musicians who have found themselves on the longlist for Oscar nominations in the category of Best Original Score, it was revealed at the weekend.
Arcade Fire's Win Butler and Owen Pallett are in there for their score for Spike Jonze's Her, Anthony Gonzalez – best known as M83 – gets a nod for the work he composed alongside Joseph Trapanese for Oblivion and Mike Patton's The Place Beyond The Pines score also made the massive initial list.
Hip Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been recognised for his Prisoners score, former Pop Will Eat Itself frontman Clint Mansell is in the running for his score for the psychological thriller Stoker, Tindersticks founder Dickon Hinchliffe is in the longlist for At Any Price, Underworld's Rick Smith is in there for Trance, the Arthur Newman score by DeVotchKa's Nick Urata is listed and legendary jazz bassist Stanley Clarke scores a mention for The Best Man Holiday.
