21 artists make the cut!
It’s all happening over at APRA, with the organisation’s 2019 Song Of The Year award shortlist unveiled alongside big news around this year’s ceremony and the announcement of a new musical director.
The peer-voted shortlist contains 21 acclaimed local tunes from the likes of Dean Lewis, Courtney Barnett, AB Original, Amy Shark, Paul Kelly, Mojo Juju and more.
The list will be narrowed down to a top five in March, before the winner will be revealed at the APRA Music Awards in Melbourne on April 30, marking the first time since 2013 it’s been hosted in Victoria.
Meanwhile, Kate Miller-Heidke has been confirmed as the event’s musical director, curating the ceremony’s live performances.

“The APRA Music Awards have evolved a great deal since we last held the event in Melbourne in 2013, so I’m thrilled that this year we’ll be presenting our very special night in such a fantastic music city and at the venerable Melbourne Town Hall,” APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Dean Ormston said.
“It will be a true celebration of our songwriter and publisher members, and of course, the songs.”
Paul Kelly’s Firewood And Candles took out the award in 2018.
