Alex Lahey Signs To Liberation Records: 'I Am Incredibly Honoured'

Melbourne singer-songwriter Alex Lahey is the latest addition to the Mushroom Group, with the announcement that she's signed to subsidiary label Liberation Records.

"I am incredibly honoured to have signed with Liberation and be a part of the Mushroom family," Lahey said of the news. 

"I've always had such admiration and respect for Mushroom and the Gudinskis and am so excited to combine our independent spirits and let my music be heard.”

To celebrate the announcement, Lahey has also shared her brand new single, Spike The Punch - along with a brilliantly choreographed film clip.

“Spike The Punch is a song about the fun that comes with self-sabotage and reckless abandon. It's big, it's loud, it's fun, it's its own beast,” Lahey explained. 

“There are some super sinister tones in there rubbing up against really bright anime style guitar harmonies (guitarmonies, anyone?) and shout choruses. Spike feels like a raucous bookend to navigating these cruelly unpredictable times. Touch wood.

“The video is perhaps my favourite video I've ever been a part of," the artist said of the vid. 

"I'm incredibly grateful to Matt Sav and his team for pulling this together over in WA while I've been locked down in Melbourne. Matt and I spoke about how we wanted to capture a sense of freedom, fluidity and fun in this video along with hurtling forward momentum.

She continued, "Matt Pope, the brilliant performer who stars in the video, completely harnesses the direction and puts on a hell of a show. It gives me chills every time I press play.”

Liberation managing director Damien Slevison also shared his excitement of the signing news, adding, “We're thrilled to add an artist and person of Alex's quality to our roster.
