Actor, author and cabaret icon Alan Cumming has been forced to postpone his Australian tour until next year.

After giving his new show, Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age, its world premiere this past Saturday at Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Cumming was scheduled to embark on a national tour, kicking off tomorrow in Brisbane.

But, due to “the escalation of COVID-19 and subsequent State border closures and increased venue capacity restrictions”, the run of shows across Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast and Perth have been pushed to next year, with new dates expected soon.

"I’m so sorry that Ms Rona is playing havoc with my tour but if the Brisbane, Sydney, Gold Coast, Perth and Melbourne audiences are disappointed, please know that no one is more upset than me,” Cumming said.

“I will come back and make it up to you once Australia is vaxxed up and open for business. I am Cumming back!”

Described as a “joyful, mischievous cabaret production”, the performances of Alan Cumming Is Not Acting His Age in Australia will mark Cumming’s first tour of the country since 2017’s sold-out run.

Ahead of his 2017 Australian tour with Sings Sappy Songs, Cumming spoke with The Music about how prolific he is.

"It's really just a sort of childlike desire to pack as much in as possible," he said.

"I've got a good Scottish work ethic. I'm fascinated by so many things and want to give it all a go.

“If it sounds fascinating or terrifying, and I think 'I'll never be able to do it,' that's the biggest lure to me. If it sounds too easy, I'm like, 'naaaa.'"
