The 2019 AIR Awards nominees for Best Independent Label have been unveiled.
ABC Music, Chapter Music, Cooking Vinyl, I Oh You and Spirit Level have all made the cut, joining other category nominees announced earlier in the year, including Courtney Barnett and Gurrumul.
The awards ceremony will take place at Adelaide’s Freemasons Hall on July 25, during the Indie-Con Australia conference.
Taking place across 25 & 26 July at Lot Fourteen, Indie-Con Australia 2019 will “explore synchronisation and music publishing, video and gaming, mental health in the music industry, the future of the label, and insights into China”, while offering “opportunities for advancement in professional and business development skills, one-on-one networking” and more.
The Best Independent Label recipient will receive a digital marketing package valued at $20,000 to help showcase their talent to the music public.
Milk! Records was awarded Best Independent Label in 2018 with co-founder Jen Cloher commenting, “Winning the Best Independent Label at the AIR Awards last year was a wonderful recognition of all the hard work that so many of us do behind the scenes in the independent music community...and to know that your peers and friends are judging, makes it feel even more special. We wish this year’s nominees all the best.”
