Newcastle’s The Cambridge Hotel has this week promoted an upcoming event at the newly-renovated venue and are teasing a headlining act that haven’t played a live show in the country for six years.
There's one name that's on a lot of lips.
Silverchair played their last live show together at Groovin The Moo in 2010, before announcing an indefinite hiatus the following year. The band, of course, were obviously founded in Newcastle, and social media is lighting up at the thought that it might be them.
In saying that, frontman Daniel Johns’ resistance to reform Silverchair is no secret. In a 2015 interview with The Music, when asked about rumours that the trio were making a comeback, the singer didn’t mince his words.
"…I can 100% guarantee that won't be happening," he said. "I think you can safely print that that won't be happening. Not even for a million bucks."
Another suggestion is electro act, Pnau. While the duo actually played at The Cambridge over new year's, it was a DJ set, so technically, it wasn’t a live show.
We also know Pnau are playing their first live show in years as part of Hot Dub Time Machine's winery tour this March, so it would make sense to tease their comeback with a small pub gig.
Another act that comes to mind is Powderfinger, who last played live in November 2010, but we're not sure they'd be up for reuniting what with Bernard Fanning's latest Civil Dusk and Brutal Dawn albums keeping him busy.
