After a week of teasing the return of “your favourite boy band,” 5 Seconds Of Summer are coming back.
Today, the Australian pop-rockers have unveiled their first single in three years, the upbeat NOT OK, and announced their new album, Everyone’s A Star!
The title refers to the four band members – Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood, and Ashton Irwin – all of whom have released solo albums in recent years, and explores the magic that occurs when the four of them are together in the same room, working on new music.
NOT OK marks the group’s first release since 2022 and their debut under a newly minted deal with Republic Records. Musically, it carries the typical 5SOS energy and draws inspiration from diverse sources, including The Prodigy and N.E.R.D., while the lyrics have an emotionally complex edge.

“It has the older 5 Seconds Of Summer energy, but it’s different—which is the whole M.O. of this chapter,” Hemmings explained of the new single. “Lyrically, it’s about letting out the darker side of yourself and embracing it. The song is also a nod to the band itself. We pull those sides out of each other.”

Everyone’s A Star will be released on Friday, 14 November. Recorded throughout 2024 and 2025, 5 Seconds Of Summer holed up in Los Angeles and Nashville studios with producers Jason Evigan (Benson Boone, Papa Roach, Rüfüs Du Sol), Julian Bunetta, and John Ryan (Sabrina Carpenter, Teddy Swims).
Discussing the album, Hemmings added, “This band is made of four people who could all have their own solo albums where they do it all, sing it all, and write it all. Everyone’s A Star! embodies all of that.
“We were teenagers at the beginning of 5 Seconds Of Summer. We were writing with more naivete, but we said what we were thinking. As time goes on, you tend to get a bit more cautious about what you say, but I think this record has more of our original spirit—but with 15 years of wisdom and a dash of reckless abandon.”

The band released their most recent album, 5SOS5, in 2022. Cracking #2 on the Billboard 200, the album spawned the hit single, Complete Mess.
This year, Calum Hood and Michael Clifford released their debut solo albums, while Ashton Irwin and Luke Hemmings dropped their first solo records in 2020 and 2021, respectively.
